A few weeks ago, when Penn and Goudeau commented that no other countries had claimed a monkey since the Canadian 'Aboot baboons' triumph, I wrote to Goudeau to ask if I could claim bonobos for England/Britain. 'Bonobos for Britain' sounds better than 'Bonobos for England' simply because of the alliteration. One of the hashtags I started for the @Monkey_Tuesday twitter page is #MonkeyTongues: how to say 'monkey' in other languages. So far, with the help of some friends, we've covered French, Spanish, Portuguese, Swedish, German, Italian and Icelandic (the last one thanks to Snorri Guðjónsson, aka @ElSnorko) - but the project seems to have stalled there.
