The argument about PBS funding is different than Penn framed.  Romney wants to cut taxes 500 billion per year.  Everyone asks him how will he balance the budget.  His answer is to cut 20 million per year from PBS.  This offsets 0.004% of his tax cuts.

Good luck with basing decisions on facts?  Don't need luck.  It works very well.

Ok, good luck with that.

I didn't say you have to follow the market.  I'm suggesting you should base a decision on facts.

Great, you brought up 2 facts

1 unemployment just went up

Correct, it went from 7.8 to 7.9.  The US also just created 171,000 jobs in October.  Four yours ago we were losing a half million jobs a month.  Obama's been creating jobs every month for over two years.  So Obama is doing great on jobs.

2 gas prices doubled, I don't know about doubled but but they have gone up.  4 years ago we were in an economic collapse and prices go down in a collapse so this isn't a failure, its a sign the economy is doing well.  Gas prices were even higher under Bush before the collapse.

You must know that saying most of the country is doing "bad" is not a fact.  Its your arbitrary label.

But I am glad to see that you have a couple things to hang your hat on.

I'm sorry to say, most of the people in this country don't follow the market. Are you saying people like you are the only ones qualified to vote? Iv'e only heard talking points from you. The unemployment rate just went up. Are you saying this isn't a fact? Gas prises are double from four years ago, are you saying this isn't a fact? Most of this country is doing bad, not just pockets. Did you ever think maybe you live in a pocket ?

I said nothing of a "gut feeling".  I see the facts of a failed administration every day, I just choose not to put my head in the sand. I choose not to listen to the talking heads on T.V.I don't just blindly spew talking points.

So I acknowledge that this is snarky, but its a pet peeve of mine and I want to hear your response.  Rather than relying on your gut feeling, think about looking at facts.  People like to justify doing what feels good by saying "I went with my gut."  If you think your opinion is based on facts, I would like to hear them.

Anyone that trades securities knows that the economy is doing pretty well.  Its easy to say that "my town is suffering", but there's always a pocket of people that are doing poorly even when the overall economy is doing fine.

Just my 401K. I don't make enough to gamble on the market.

One significant problem I have with Democrats is in many states teachers are overpaid, but I don't think its a federal issue.  I want the federal government to help college students more, but that's not going to happen.

It sounds like you don't really follow the financial markets much.  Is that right?

I think that some teachers get paid too much and I feel some don't get paid close to enough. I think their pay should reflect their performance, not their seniority. Their job should depend on it also. I remember when I was a kid, teachers went to school and wanted to be teachers. They loved it and were passionate about it. Now, a lot of teachers I talk to, they were something else or wanted to be something else and teaching was something to fall back on. They really couldn't care less and it's just a paycheck and benifits. I'm not saying all or most, I'm just saying there are a lot.

Pensions are pensions. There are good points and bad points about them.I think people who don't have one, can give you a million reasons why they are bad, and the people who get them can give you a million why they are cool.

I'm in Illinois.  I'm not familiar with the details, but its not as much of a factor here anymore.

Do you agree with the Republican view that teachers are overpaid and their pensions are too generous?

Comment by samuel blanton on November 1, 2012 at 1:57pm

My wife is one also. And it is alive and well. or should I say, not so well. When teachers are just teaching how to take tests, children miss out on alot.

I think it's more then just getting rid of the "bad" teachers". They also take away the ability to recognize great teachers . All teachers should be subject to performance reviews and be held accountable.

Do I think it would fix the problem? Not completely or right away, but it would be a step in the right direction.

Vanilla & Chocolate Magic Swirtle

Posted by The Verge on May 15, 2013 at 1:14pm 4 Comments

I wanted to support Penn's latest promotion on Celebrity Apprentice, and went out an purchased 10 pints of Vanilla & Chocolate Magic Swirtle ice cream.  I gave 9 of them away, but kept one for myself.

Before I continue, you have to know that I have spent the last four months watching everything that has been put into my system, and have lost 54 pounds.  A few spoonfuls of Penn's new flavor was going to be a small treat.

Holy Diarysweetgoodness!!  I wasn't expecting it to…
